TYPES OF LEATHER'S
The Different Types of Leather We Use

Suede Leather
We are proud to offer silky soft suede in a variety of colors and sizes. Our suede is tanned with premium anilines dyes that penetrate through the entire leather. Each piece has been carefully finished through a fine sanding process resulting in an even surface with a superb, velvety touch. Please note, our suede is “double sided” with both side being fully buffed and polished.
How is Suede Made?
Suede is made by processing the underside of animal hides, typically from lamb, goat, or calf. The flesh side of the hide is sanded or buffed to create a soft, napped texture. This process gives suede its characteristic velvety feel and pliability, making it ideal for fashion and accessories. While luxurious, suede is more delicate than full-grain leather due to its open-pore structure.

Grain Leather
Grain leather is one of the highest quality types of leather, known for its strength, durability, and natural beauty. It is made from the top layer of the animal hide, preserving the natural grain pattern and texture. This type of leather is categorized into two main types:
- Full-Grain Leather – The highest quality, untouched surface, showcasing natural marks and developing a patina over time.
- Top-Grain Leather – Sanded and smoothed for a uniform finish, softer and more flexible than full-grain.
How is Grain Made?
Grain leather is made from the top layer of animal hides, known as the grain. For full-grain leather, the hide is left intact, preserving its natural texture and imperfections. For top-grain leather, the surface is sanded or buffed to remove imperfections, creating a smoother, more uniform finish. Both processes retain the hide’s strength and durability, making grain leather ideal for high-quality products.

Wet Blue Leather
Wet blue leather is semi-processed leather tanned using chromium salts, giving it a characteristic bluish color. This stage stabilizes the hide, preventing decomposition and preparing it for further processing like dyeing, finishing, or shaping. Wet blue leather is valued for its durability and versatility, making it ideal for various leather products.
How is Wet Blue Made?
Wet blue leather is created through a process called chrome tanning. In this method, hides are soaked in a solution of chromium salts, which helps preserve and strengthen the leather. The hides turn a bluish color due to the chemical reaction, which gives the leather its name. After this step, the leather is stable and can be further processed into finished products like bags, shoes, or upholstery.
Source
Leathers Sourced from Animals
Leather is primarily sourced from the hides of various animals, each providing unique characteristics that contribute to the leather’s quality, texture, and use. Here are the most common types of animal leather:
- Cowhide : The most commonly used leather, known for its durability and strength. It’s ideal for heavy-duty items like jackets, shoes, and furniture.
- Goat : Goatskin leather is soft, durable, and lightweight, with a fine grain texture. It’s known for its flexibility and strength, making it ideal for high-quality products like gloves, jackets, bags, and footwear.
- Buffalo : Soft and lightweight, sheepskin leather is prized for its luxurious texture and warmth. It’s often used in high-end clothing and accessories.
